Our Mission
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP) is an international Roman Catholic Church charity organization dedicated to serving the poor, the needy and the disadvantaged in the community through practical works of charity. In the tradition of its founder, Frederic Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul, the members of the Society assist the poor through person-to-person contact by visiting them in their homes, providing them with material aid, spiritual comfort and whatever is possible to empower them to become self-sufficient. Although it is a Roman Catholic Church Charity Organization, the Society provides service to the poor regardless of their religious, ethnic, social or gender backgrounds. The Society in Botswana was established in the 1960s and is part of the Vincentian family worldwide.
Our Work
The Society in Botswana has several projects like a Care Centre in Gaborone West, run by the Cathedral Conference, another one in Mogoditshane under Holy Cross Conference, Little Friends Day Care Centre in Serowe under St Gabriel’s Conference, just to mention a few. There are other practical projects undertaken by Vincentians throughout the country, including visits to hospitals, needy families’ homes, prisons and hospices. The Gaborone West Care Centre offers full boarding facilities to orphans and needy children, disadvantaged youths attending schools in the city that have nowhere to stay and any other person in need of care as per available space and resources. Children residing at the Centre are enrolled at nearby schools and are provided with all the support to help them excel in their studies. Currently there are 9 disadvantaged children accommodated at the Care Centre from different parts of Botswana.
The Society appreciates any form of support by individuals or organizations to help alleviate suffering or deprivation and promote human dignity and personal integrity in all areas of life.
